Johnny Boston Wants To Make a Film In The Country
The English director is looking for support from the secretary of tourism to conquer his film

By Jorge Jimenez

Johnny Boston the director of "Foreign Affair" is visiting our country, Santa Domingo. He is looking for different locations to film his new movie. Boston who is originally from England and doesn't speak Spanish has already spent two weeks casting Dominican actors.

"The principal cast comes from the United States, some of the actors come directly from LA." Johnny Boston would like to film part of the movie here in the Dominican Republic. Other scenes from the movie will take place in New York City, Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Romana, and San Jose de las Matas.

The movie is a psychological drama about a young girl who comes from South America. If the secretary of tourism was to back the film , then they would claim that the girl was from Santa Domingo.

"The girl will supposedly come to Santa Domingo to look for her lover and during her search the young girl will go through many comfortable and uncomfortable situations which make the film a psychological drama."

The director came to this country represented by B and U productions, which is established in New York City. Boston said," He hasn't negotiated yet with any company to produce the film, but he is hoping to find somebody in Santo Domingo either a producer, government or a private organization to help with the film."

If the Dominican government and tourism will back up the movie, Johnny will say that the girl is from Santa Domingo. Boston feels that this will help foreign affairs, through tourism. "If the film was to shoot in the country, it will open the eyes of other directors to come and shoot in the country, The film will be seen all over the world and economically the Dominican Republic will benefit from this."

Johnny Boston has already had eight years in the industry doing musical videos , and twenty-two movies for film and television. He is also the writer of the movie "Foreign Affair."

"I got interested in Santa Domingo because it has very natural scenery. I didn't choose Costa Rica and Mexico because they are to congested, here it is something different."

The director says they will shoot here in March and April prior to post production which will be two months. The whole film will be ready in ten months.

" The casting here is totally different then how we do it in LA It is not necessarily about the professionalism it is more about the faces. We are looking for a specific character to match the frame of the film, and here is where we can find it." His interest to work in this country came from the variety of skin colors of the natives.

He recognizes there is a lot of talent in Santa Domingo and that one day they may make it to Hollywood. Boston said, "There will be many parts in the film where the actors will be able to express themselves." He didn't reveal yet how much money it will take to make the film. The story of the film is about a young girl that is trapped by solitude. Other people feel that she is crazy, but she is not. It is solitude that overwhelms her heart no matter where she is. Johnny wants to see maranga music in the sound track. He is open to any musician who wishes to send tapes for the sound track of the film. The director will go back to NY Sunday. And he will be back in two weeks with the producer so they can negotiate with the government to get the permits for shooting in the country.

Boston feels that American films are filled with too much violence, that they are only looking to make money with a media stereo type. "These days nothing comes from the heart, people are only looking for a blockbuster." This makes him nervous for his film which is a true romantic piece of work. "Action is what sells today, even if I like the films I want a change." Johnny Boston confesses he never makes comedies, but he believes that in the films that people are suppose to cry, laugh, and get nervous; Drama is the type of film that moves people this way." The director is curious to learn Dominican films he does confess that he has never seen "Por fin llego Bal buena," but he will find the time to see it. He did not realize that the Dominicans were making films, but he is very interested to know about them.

Johnny knows that as of now he is not a huge director, but his aims are very high to conquer Los Angeles, California. He desires to make a film that transcends into history.
